Donald Trump Booed After Sending Birthday Message to Kamala Harris

Former President Donald Trump wished his political opponent Vice President Kamala Harris a happy birthday via social media and at a town hall on Sunday.
Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, turned 60 years old today. In a rare turn of events, Trump, the Republican presidential nominee who uses his Truth Social platform to hurl personal insults at Harris, sent his warm regards to her this afternoon.
“Kamala, Happy 60th Birthday!” the former president wrote.
He later said at a town hall in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, “I wanna wish [Harris] a happy 60th birthday,” which was met with boos from the crowd. “Happy birthday. And many more. And I mean it. I do mean it, actually.”
Newsweek has reached out to Trump and Harris’ campaigns via email for comment Sunday evening.
Age has been a major talking point this election cycle. The question of mental and physical fitness to serve as president was prominent when Trump, 78, was up against President Joe Biden, 81. Since Biden dropped out of the race in late July and endorsed Harris, the media’s conversation around age has lessened for the most part.
Earlier this month, Harris publicly released a medical report from her doctor, putting pressure on Trump to release his full medical records.
In a letter released on October 12, Dr. Joshua Simmons, a U.S. Army colonel and physician to the vice president, wrote that Harris maintains a healthy, active lifestyle and that her most recent physical last April was “unremarkable.”
She “possesses the physical and mental resiliency required to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” he wrote in a two-page letter.
Following the release of Harris’ medical records, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign stressed that medical reports voluntarily released by the former president have found that he is in “perfect and excellent health to be Commander in Chief.”
Trump “has maintained an extremely busy and active campaign schedule unlike any other in political history, whereas Kamala Harris has been unable to keep up with the demands of campaigning and reveals on a daily basis she is wholly unqualified to be President of the United States,” Steven Cheung, Trump Campaign communications director, said in a press release at the time.
On October 13, Harris wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, “Donald Trump refuses to release his medical records…Why does his staff want him to hide away? Are they afraid that people will see that he is too weak and unstable to lead America?”
Meanwhile, Biden also wished Harris a happy birthday on Sunday afternoon.
“I’ve been proud to have you by my side, and I know you will be a great president. On your birthday, I’m encouraging folks to make a plan to vote,” he wrote on X with a link to the “I Will Vote” website, which provides information for voters and checks people’s voter registration status, among other things.
Harris spent her birthday at two worship services in the Atlanta area. At the Divine Faith Ministries International in Jonesboro, singer Stevie Wonder, a Harris supporter, led attendees in singing his rendition of “Happy Birthday” to the vice president.
