This is an unusual and interesting display holder for thimbles. It has a flat wood bottom, two plush or velvet lined slide in and out shelves both with round holes holding small corks on which to place thimbles for display. Both shelves have 18 holes each - only 7 of the 36 corks are missing. Attached to the shelves are tape loops with which to pull them out. The front and back of this display cabinet are each a vertical piece of glass with a wooden strip at the top to lift up, down, or even out. There is a small piece of glass sitting flat under a wooden piece upright across the top. On one side of the wooden strip it reads: "Prize Medal Thimble Cabinet," and on the reverse it reads: "Patent Enamel-Lined." To the left of the writing is a circle which reads: "1862 London" and some other words. The end sides are wood also. The base measures 6" wide, 3 1/2" deep. All the wooden parts are very nicely and smoothly finished. There are no cracks or chips that I can see in the glass pieces. There is a tiny piece of the paper missing at the top on the Prize Medal side. Overall, the condition is very, very, good. [No thimbles included]. From my personal collection.
